Our Company

Once Upon a Marker

Dancing with Markers founder Lauren Green started her professional journey as a performing artist. After transitioning from the stage to the corporate world, she became fascinated by how organizations work and workplace dynamics.

Lauren made a name for herself as a visual notetaker, specializing in the use of visuals to support group processes. She founded Dancing with Markers, LLC in 2017. Since then, Lauren has partnered with hundreds of leaders, meeting and event planners, facilitators, and design teams to create extraordinary meeting experiences through the art of visualization. Today, Dancing with Markers is a team of visual notetakers that bring a unique perspective to meeting visualization.

Why the name “Dancing with Markers”?

The Dancing with Markers name comes from Lauren's background as both a professional dancer and visual practitioner. When we take visual notes, we move with the speaker, our markers and the canvas. Through visuals, we invite you to make your mark and dance into possibility.

If ideas and information aren’t captured, they don’t stick.

Our mission is to deliver visual artifacts that make ideas and experiences stick.

Our Approach

As much as we pride ourselves on creating aesthetically pleasing designs, we prioritize content capture over visual aesthetics. There’s artistry in the work, but—as Mike Rhode, author of The Sketchnote Handbook, says—visual notetaking is about “ideas, not art.” We are not professional artists; we are professional listeners.

Discovery

We’ll meet with you prior to the event to review the agenda, determine design needs and confirm logistics. While some events require us to do pre-work to ready our charts, we are generally able to “show up and capture” with minimal preparation.

Delivery

During your event, we listen for audio cues from the speaker, like repetition or a change of pace or tone, that tell us when something is important. From there, we capture their ideas through words and images with key points featured prominently and surrounded by important details.

Pictures help remind participants of metaphors and stories shared by speakers, and the spacing and connections between content help participants easily relive and remember the experience.

Charts are generally finished onsite and ready to display. In all cases, you will have the nearly finished design right away and all final deliverables within two business days of your event.
